Indoor Training for the Winter

By Nathaniel Wu

As fall turns to winter, outdoor activity seems almost impossible. While it is possible to exercise outdoors, indoor exercise may be much more favorable in the colder weather. Here are some tips to stay in shape during the winter, even if you don’t have the equipment.

#1 Bodyweight Workouts

For those who don’t have a lot of equipment at home, bodyweight exercises are lifesavers. They utilize no equipment, relying on body weight to provide resistance. The “Big Five” bodyweight exercises are planks, push-ups, burpees, mountain climbers, and squats. These exercises are great for exercising the entire body while saving you money and room.

#2 Involve the family

When stuck at home, motivation can get low. However, having other people encourage you can be the push you need. You can start a mini-competition between your family or have a fun “Just Dance” off. Not only will this be great for keeping in shape, but it will also strengthen bonds in a household. Encourage each other, and workouts can be more of a fun activity than a chore.

#3 Use a workout video

One luxury that being indoors has is watching videos while working out. There are countless workouts/tutorials for whatever you need, so you are sure to find what you need. With just a few clicks, you can find the perfect workout(s) for the winter season.

The cold winter weather doesn’t have to stop your goals of fitness. By taking these tips, you can utilize the break and get ready for the spring season.
